The Clubhouse - Architect: Sir Edwin Lutyens (1869-1944)
The Clubhouse was built as a result of Lutyens' marriage to Lady Emily Lytton, the family dynasty resident at Knebworth House.
When completed it served the needs of only a relatively small number of members. Subsequently, both east and west wings were extended to provide further accommodation.
In 1995, the interior was extensively refurbished in a manner that does justice to Lutyens' original vision.

The lantern over the front entrance is an important focal point, and Lutyens used it in a way which is both apt and witty.
He decided to place a wooden Macaw in the lantern, an act of frivolity that raised a few eyebrows when it was first installed!
