1. August was a busy month with 7 matches against other clubs as well as the Seniors Invitation. The Invitation was a great success and we had a large visiting entry which ensured the new clubhouse extension was used to full effect after the playing of the event. Kevin’s catering was appreciated by all, including the visitors . Thanks must go to Geoff Targett for his organisation and to all those who helped on the day including the greenkeepers and course rangerl. The winners of the invitation were Mike Buckley from Panshanger and Ray Swallow with 48pts, followed by Mike Johnson of Brookmans Park playing with Richard Smith with a total of 45 pts on countback.
2. The nextCharity Stableford is on Monday 6thSeptember – the heavy progamme of events in August meant that no time could be found for a competition then. Remember that if you have not put in your minimum of three cards for this year that this event gives you an opportunity towards qualification.
3. The playing lists are now up on the board for the new Vintage Trophy as well as the Moores Shield competition on Monday 13thSeptember starting at 8:15am – be sure to tick your names to re-confirm availability. Support for the Vintage Trophy has been heartening with 17 entrants and a start time of 10:30 am on Friday 10thSeptember. The Trophy, donated by Ken Poole, will be presented to the winner by the Seniors< Captain, Les Fryatt, at the informal lunch after the event.
4. We now enter the last month of competition for the Eclectic Salver. The grouping of players at the head of the leaderboard is getting tighter, but so far no one has overtaken Dennis Buck who at the start of the month leads with a net 57.5 score. Les Davey is close behind with 58.5 net and Brian Clamp is on net 60.5. Weekly updates will be posted on the board through September as the competition reaches its climax.
5. As the Summer 4-ball reaches its Final games, look out for the entry sheet for the Winter -4-ball competition and make sure you get your entries in together with the entry fee.
