Their were concerns that the greens putted slow during the first half of the month and I am sure that wetness coupled with ideal growing conditions were contributory to this. Green speeds increased as they started to dry out coupled with a severe verticutting operation. Early next month, we have arranged to try some demonstration Vibratory Rollers for a week to see if it will help in increasing our green speed with out causing any detriment to compaction.
The recent heat wave has dried localised areas of the greens which were topped up by hand watering on four occasions. This avoids over watering the remainder of the greens that are sufficiently moist.
Tees & Surrounds;-
Due to increased play, the re seeding of divot holes on the tees has now been increased to three to four times a week.
Nothing to report on the surrounds.
Bunkers;-
Some bunkers have been topped up with sand. All bunker perimeters have had their grass trimmed back.
Fairways;-
Due to the hot & dry conditions, the fairways have not been cut in order to relieve stress. However, unsightly grass stalks are now appearing and these have been trimmed by using the rough rotary mower set at its lowest cut.
Automatic Watering System;-
-Impact drive pop ups on the tees have been tested for operation;- by resetting the arc of watering, cleared out blockages as well as some repairs.
-A temporary repair was made to a leak in the 12th hydrant box.
-The grass around the pop up heads has been trimmed.
